Some quaran-tips if car registration expired during ECQ

Good news if your car registration expired during the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ).

According to the LTO, all vehicle registrations that expired during the ECQ shall automatically be extended for 60 days without penalties.

Below are the guidelines and procedures released by the LTO for vehicle registration renewal:

A. Follow the health and sanitary protocols which shall be enforced by the LTO.

    1. The wearing of face masks shall be mandatory
    2. Physical/social distancing shall be observed at all times
    3. Transactions of persons below 21 years old, those who are 60 years old and above, and pregnant women shall only be allowed upon lifting of Community Quarantine, consistent with Executive Order No.112, series of 2020.

B. Procedure and schedule for vehicles whose registration expired during the ECQ

*If vehicles have no plates yet

**Those vehicles with plate numbers that have 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 as the middle or second to the last digit is not covered by this automatic extension as they are outside the coverage of the ECQ. Source topgear.com.ph

C. LTO renewal requirements

  • Photocopy of Certificate of Registration (COR) and its official receipt of payment
  • Appropriate Insurance Certificate of Cover (COC)
  • Duly accomplished and approved Motor Vehicle Inspection Report (MVIR)
  • Certificate of Emission Compliance (CEC)
  • Taxpayer’s Identification Number (TIN)

D. Some tips for a hassle-free visit to the LTO:

  1. Take advantage of LTO’s one-month advance processing of motor vehicle renewals to avoid penalties due to late registration.
  2. Before proceeding to the LTO office or branch of choice, ensure all the needed documents are on hand as the LTO is strict with requirements.
  3. On the scheduled day, arrive as early as possible to avoid long queues.
  4. Place documents in an envelope for order and easy access and bring a ballpen for filling up forms.
  5. Avoid talking to fixers. Report them immediately to authorized LTO personnel.
  6. Help make transactions run smoother by being pleasant and patient with the LTO personnel and fellow drivers.
  7. Make sure vehicle is in top condition for inspection. Visit a trusted auto repair shop before renewal for an engine tune-up and an oil change for the emission test.

The responsibility of the car owner does not stop there. No matter how careful behind the wheel, accidents still happen.

Though a CTPL insurance is an LTO mandatory requirement, comprehensive insurance is highly recommended. Why?

A comprehensive car insurance provides financial protection for both the driver and the vehicle as coverage may include repairs, damages, liabilities caused by collision, car theft, floods, and landslides. This type of insurance may protect vehicle owners from huge expenses when accidents happen.
